Part of your POL is to present "evidence" or artifacts of your final project(s). Describe the actual pieces of evidence you will be including in your POL and in what format ( powerpoint, display, a portfolio,etc...) you are thinking of using to present your POL.

For my presentation, I intend to show examples of my writings in the newspaper as well as bringing them up on a computer to show everyone. I will also show my internship DP to the staff here, so they could see what I have been writing for the past month.

1. How was your work as an intern meaningful to your education and personal growth? 2. How did your view of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an intern? 3. How did communication and/or collaboration at work influence your understanding of professional working environments?

My work as an intern was very meaningful because since I've been here at my internship, I've been even more excited to go back to school and learn more. I've also learned a lot from the people working at the Review-Journal and I will remember what they have taught me for the rest of my journalism career. As for personal growth, I think that I have increased my patience and I now know to always go over my work and try to improve it as much as I can. Since I've been here, I started to look or online media outlets that I could work for. I eventually found an outlet that let me join them as a contributing writer, so my life beyond high school is already somewhat starting because I already have a job that my future career will be based off of. Since I don't really talk much, the hardest thing for me here was to call up people and ask them questions regarding whatever I was writing a story about. But now, I feel as if I am not as shy as I was when I started and that this internship brought me out of my shell. I also have communicated with everyone around the office and even have made friends here.

1. How was your work significant or meaningful to your workplace? 2. How did your project(s) go from an idea or inspiration to a final product? Explain the processes from the initial idea to the final product and the skills that you used and developed.

My work that I provided for my internship was work that is used for colums that are used in everyday a paper, so the work I provided was useful for everyone. My music colums were just extras, and I believe that if the reader did not hear about the bands I were talking about, that they might possibly look them up and actually like them. Other than my daily writings, my projects included a concert review on an Of Mice & Men concert, and an interview/concert preview of SECRETS. Before attending the concert, I thought my review was only going to be a few inches long. But with help from editors and contributors, they helped make my piece way longer than it needed to be. I had to trim it tremendously, but it ended up being one of the best pieces I've written in my opinion. It even landed me a job as a contributor for a music journalism website. My other project, the interview, was something I thought of on the spot and basically did it all by myself, except the editing. I contacted the bands PR, and got the band to stop on their travel on a Starbucks in order for me to ask them questions about them.

Compare and contrast the work week with the school week. How are your responsibilities, work, interactions, and time different? How might internship influence the direction of your life?

In school, my work is based on a strict time limit most of the time. Here in my internship, I just have to do work within my working hours (which is 8 hrs/day). My responsibilities are high, and everyone seems to treat me equally to them. Whereas in school, all students are treated below teachers for obvious reasons. I have interacted with every section of the newspaper already, and I have pretty much contributed to them as well. This internship has made me finally decide that this is my career that I will follow my whole life. It is something that I love to do, and by meeting all of these unique people, I know that I will have a fun time as well in the future while writing interesting stories and possibly photographing it as well.

Write down the names of the internship blogs you read/commented AND write down any takeaways that you may have from reading other internship experiences.

Kotae, Lisette, Jonathan B. By reading a few of my peers internship blogs, I see that many of them are enjoying them and hopefully will in the future pursue a career in the field they are working with. I know that I definitely will be a journalist, and I already are one. They also talked about sometimes it's awkward around their workspace, but that happens everywhere and is normal.

What has surprised you? What have you accomplished? Were there any funny moments? Awkward moments? If so, how did you handle those situations. Be as descriptive as possible.

So far, not much has really surprised me. I have written numerous different Collins in the paper. My greatest published piece would be my concert review of one of my favorite music groups, Of Mice & Men. There were a lot of funny moments in the newsroom, but I can't remember them. No awkward moments. The best moments, though, were getting so much positive feedback on my writings. It really makes me feel special knowing that I am considered a good writer, and hopefully I can grow even more as a writer and as a person from this internship.

Describe in detail the project you will be working on for your internship. In regards to the project, what are you excited and nervous about? How will it benefit you and the company?

Since I am interning at a newspaper office, I am not really working on a project. Each day, I am usually assigned to a media release that is sent out. Recently, I have also been assigned to call Clark County coroner's office to get the name, age, and cause of death of people either shot or killed in a car accident. I am excited that tomorrow I will go to see one of my favorite bands, Of Mice & Men, as a press member and then have to write a concert review on it the following day. Since I already write concert reviews, the Review-Journal's music reporter will help me develop a better sense of writing reviews. The company will benefit from my help because I usually take work off of peoples hands when they are already preoccupied with other work they're assigned.
